Of course, you’ll still need to work (potentially long hours, at least as you are starting up), and you’ll need to be in control of what you’re doing, but essentially, when you are the boss, you can choose exactly how and why you do what you do.

Although this is a major benefit to being self-employed, there are downsides to this idea as well. If you have never worked in business before, how will you know you’re doing the right things, asking the right questions, or making the right choices? 

This is where having a business degree is very useful indeed – when you have the knowledge that such a degree will offer you, you’ll be much more confident in running your own business.

You’ll take a business degree because you want to know more about business and how to run your own. This makes sense; business skills are not something many people just have – they need to learn them, and attending a college program to obtain that information is a great way to do just that.

However, on top of what you’ll be learning in terms of the subject you’ve chosen, you’ll also be able to learn many additional skills. In a good school, you’ll find there is much more to your education than ‘simply’ the knowledge you’ll gain about your chosen subject.

Something you should add to your business skills is networking, and this is something that is much more easily achieved if you have a degree.

When you have studied with people, you will find it easier to network with them. This is the first benefit; however, on top of this, there is the benefit of those people knowing other people who might be of use within your business. Without a degree, you wouldn’t have the skills needed to network, and you wouldn’t know the right people either.
