Affiliate Marketing: Beginners’ Guide
by Mashum Mollah Marketing 30 October 2019
Affiliate marketing is a relatively new phenomenon, first launched in 1996, and still picking up speed. If you’re interested in affiliate marketing, read through this guide for details on how to do it.
First of all, here’s the basic outline of how it works:
- Start your own website.
- Put affiliate links (specific URLs containing your affiliate ID or username) onto the products you’re promoting on your site.
- Someone clicks on a product on your site and is brought to the site it’s really on.
- If the person purchases the product from your link, you earn a commission.
Affiliate Marketing: Beginners’ Guide:
That’s the truly basic overview of affiliate marketing.
Now, here’s how you can go about becoming an affiliate marketer.
Firstly, figure out if you’re more of an emotional or logical sort of person. If you’re more the emotional type, contemplate what you’re passionate about, be it makeup, clothing, electronics or anything else. However, if you run your life more by logic, you can probably handle opening a business that you are or are not passionate about, whether it’s an affiliate marketing site selling medical supplies such as hospital toilets and incontinence supplies, a site selling cleaning supplies, or any other kind of business that requires determination much more than passion.
Next, consider how many affiliate marketers are already in this niche. Be sure there’s enough room on board for you, too. If the field seems to be flooded, don’t jump in there. Hang on; you’ll brainstorm something else.
Don’t forget to make sure there are affiliate programs available in this niche. You can only be an affiliate marketer if there is an affiliate program for you to work with. If there’s not, scratch that plan and see what else you can come up with.
Of course, aside from figuring out which affiliate program to use and all that, you’re also going to need to build a website. The easiest way to do so is to do it on WordPress. Choose a site name, install your theme, and start creating content. Product reviews are very important, and blog posts addressing issues having to do with your niche can do wonders as well.
But before you go and create content and choose a WordPress theme, decide on your audience. Who will your site be catering to? Rich, upper-class Americans or college students looking to save big? Or perhaps you’ll be focusing on the struggling middle class. Will it be old people? Intelligent folks? Think of an audience, and think through about how to create marketing strategies that will bring that audience to like your site.
These are the first steps you’ll want to take if you’re looking to earn money through affiliate marketing.
Starting an affiliate marketing business isn’t easy, but it can be very successful. Some earn over $150,000 per year just from affiliate marketing. And the good news is, although all beginnings are difficult, once you make it through the first year or so, it’s likely to get much easier.
