Comfortable Office

The concepts of work and happiness are not always closely associated, but researchers have found that joy in the workplace can increase productivity dramatically. In fact, it can increase productivity by up to 12 percent, according to one study done at the University of Warwick. Some essential keys to a cheerful workplace include environmental climate, cleanliness, and comfort. So whether you are designing a home office or creating a collaborative corporate space, you can raise the efficiency and effectiveness of your team with these fun technological advancements.

1. Wi-Fi Thermostat :

Two of the top ten workplace considerations suggested by architecture and design company Hok include keeping the office the ideal temperature and maintaining the quality of indoor air. Hok states, “The ideal temperature in office environments is 70.88 degrees Fahrenheit (21.6 degrees Celsius) with a 1 to 2 percent decrease in performance for every 1.8° F (1° C) above or below.” With a Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat, you can remotely control not only the temperature but also the humidity, ventilation, and other aspects of your HVAC system.

2. Cloud Storage :

Taking advantage of cloud storage services allows you to access documents from the comfort of your chair without rifling through thick folders of paper. It also allows you to remotely access documents from, say, the comfort of a beach resort. If you’re working on a collaborative assignment, programs like Google Drive can decrease time spent emailing back and forth, thus increasing productivity and keeping everyone on the same page.

3. Wireless Accessories :

Removing unnecessary wires declutters your office and aids in creating an organized and professional environment. Whether you spend lots of office time on the phone, or just enjoy privately listening to your favorite jams, wireless headphones or headsets may be just the thing you need to increase your office comfort. Not having to deal with tangled cords or getting up to run to the phone decreases time wasted. These devices also allow for hands-free multi-tasking and give you a workable range of motion away from your desk. Also, check out wireless ergonomic keyboards and mouses to cut down on the clutter even more.

4. Ergonomic Technology  :

Of course, a big part of office comfort comes from the chair and desk where you spend most of your time. Standing desks have become more popular as they have been shown to promote health and productivity, but they are not always the most comfortable way to work. As a middle ground option, a sit to stand desk or a laptop stand could be a good compromise on comfort and efficiency. A chair that allows your feet to stay flat on the floor with your thighs in a horizontal position and your arms at the height of the desk is best for good posture and comfort.

Increasing comfort can seem superfluous but these easy fixes can bring a lot to an office space. The elevated productivity you will see by making these small but important adjustments will be an investment that brings a quick return.
