Online Business Ideas

One advantage to online businesses and side-hustles is that you can get started at your own pace. Many people will begin their online endeavours while still working at a “normal” job, and then as their online businesses grow, they’re able to focus on them full time.

Finding the right opportunity can be challenging, so here are some ideas of profitable online businesses. Of course, it’s also possible to lose money, as with any new venture – so just because there’s a lot of money to be made in certain areas of the internet, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that you’ll be successful. Finding the best fit for your skill set, experience levels, interests, and passions is an important step. Here are some ideas…

Creating Videos:

Video content is in huge demand. If you’re able to create videos in different styles, there are a lot of freelancer opportunities. With social media pages and publishers needing new content every day for their audiences, being able to edit, curate, and compile videos can be a valuable skill.

Other video work could be filming ads and commercials for local businesses, or even creating your own YouTube channel. Whatever you’re interested in, there is a good chance that there is a decent size community of people who enjoy watching it on YouTube!

Being an Affiliate:

An affiliate is someone who promotes something and earns a commission when it sells. They’ll often have special ‘affiliate links’ to assign credit for each referred sale. These affiliate links can be shared on social media, via email, in the descriptions of your videos, and on your own website or blog.

For example, if someone is a casino affiliate, they might have a blog talking about things to do in Las Vegas. They might review different attractions, shows, and establishments. They could show banners from various online gambling sites, or even do their own first-hand reviews after trying out and comparing different sites. Casinos often pay very generous commissions for referrals, but that also makes it a competitive industry for affiliates, so it’s important to put in a ton of effort to stand above the crowd.

Publishing Books:

Self-publishing is very possible. If you’ve ever dreamed of being an author and publishing the next fantasy novel masterpieces, or you’re just very knowledgeable on a topic and you want to write a book about it, you don’t have to submit it to publishers anymore and collect dozens of rejection letters. You can just put it out there yourself. Of course, there are pros and cons to this, but it can be a great starting point.

With the popularity of Amazon Kindle, releasing books for the device has proven to be a lucrative venture for countless authors.

Flipping Physical Goods:

There are a lot of good deals to be had locally, whether it’s keeping an eye out for clearance items at the store, or going to garage sales and flea markets. In some cases, you can turn around and flip those items online for a profit.

People have been doing this for years and years, but now that everyone has mobile phones in their pockets, it’s so much easier to look up the prices before you buy anything in person. When you’ve found a good deal, you can list it online. You can list on sites like eBay and Etsy to ship around the world, and also on local classified sites like Letgo, Kijiji, and Craigslist.

Other Ideas:

Some other ideas for a successful online business could be selling services like design, photography, or programming. You could offer consulting in your area of expertise, review local restaurants for a blog, teach people a new talent, manage social media for local businesses, and so much more.

Whether you want to be your own boss, work as a freelancer, or just work remotely for another online business, the opportunities are out there!
