eBooks Vs. Books – Which Is The Most Preferable Option?
by Abdul Aziz Mondal Technology Published on: 01 September 2022 Last Updated on: 02 September 2022
Since my childhood, I have always been an avid book lover (thanks, mom!). And, that’s why I have always preferred printed books. I felt like they’re much easier to read and the sense of holding them while sipping a cup of tea is quite joyous.
Pretty old-school, you say?
Well, that’s what I, too, considered myself to be… until I read the eBook version of Daughter of the Moon Goddess. And, I must say – what an experience it was!
I felt kind of ridiculous at first, if I’m being honest – as I despised the idea of not being able to smell the sweet essence of a physical book. But, after reading the book, I perceived why most people tend to love eBooks nowadays.
I have shared my experience in the below section. So, please check it out and tell me in the comment section if you agree with me or not. Thanks in advance!
Should You Choose eBooks Over Books?
Yes, if you are an avid reader, you definitely should opt for eBooks now. I mean, they’re a lot more convenient after all, no matter how you look at it. Let me tell you how.
1. Portable
Like any other digital product, an eBook is quite lightweight and portable too. Even a massive 300-page book can be crammed into a minute 3.00MB file. And, if you have an ePub version, you can reduce the size of the same even more by converting it into a PDF.
Don’t trust me? Well, then, click here to know more about it.
And, the best thing? You can carry around literally hundreds of books in a small device. Thus, it’ll be possible for you to access them whenever and wherever you want.
2. Can Be Found Everywhere
You can find an eBook almost anywhere on the internet. Just type in the name of the book you are looking for, add “PDF” after it, and search on Google. You’ll get more than one option on your screen. Now, you can click on an option, pay the required amount, and download it.
Simple enough.
Now, when you’re looking for an eBook, you might find a free version or two of it too. Yes, I mean, the offer may sound lucrative, but we’ll ask you to avoid them because –
- It’s an infringement not to pay for the author’s work.
- Free websites tend to contain viruses and malware.
And, the quality of the eBook might not be on-par with something that you have bought from an authority website or platform. But, if you’ve bought an ePub version of a book, you can go to a free website to convert it for free. It won’t affect you or your device in any way.
3. Low Price
Unlike a physical book, there’s no need to print an eBook. Therefore, you don’t have to waste or use pages for it as well. These factors can reduce the overall price of an eBook by a mile.
Also, as there are not too many mediums between you and the book, you won’t have to pay an additional amount of money. Hence it’s pretty affordable in that sense as well.
4. No Risk Of Late Fees
If you don’t have enough money to buy a book, what do you do? Go to a library, right? Well, it’s an age-old process to read a book without paying a hefty amount of money to buy it. And, the monthly or yearly subscription fee of a library is pretty low and affordable as well.
But, do you know what makes opting for a library problematic?
Well, the issue of late fees. Even if you’re submitting the book after a day, you’ll have to pay a lot of cash for your “sin.” And, it can be quite frustrating.
But, as mentioned before, you’re getting an eBook for quite a small amount of money. And, as you’re the owner of it, there’s no need to worry about paying late fees and all.
5. The Availability Of An In-Built Dictionary
While reading, it can be a little frustrating to come across a word that you probably don’t have any idea about. However, that’s quite natural. Therefore, almost every eBook comes with an in-built dictionary. So, if you want to learn about the meaning of a word, just click on it.
And, the meaning of the same will appear on your screen.
Additionally, in some eBook readers, you’ll find a dictionary to be available on the right side of your screen. Hence, if you want to know the meaning of something, go there and type it out accordingly. It will provide you with the meaning right away.
6. Less Space Required
As mentioned before, an eBook comes with a size of around 2.5MB to 3.00MB. Thus, it’ll be much easier for you to keep more than a hundred books on your mobile.
Even if you can’t, you can always replace or keep them on your pen drive. And, if you wish to read something, just take whatever you need from there.
Or, you may also opt for purchasing a dedicated device like Amazon Kindle. There’s quite a lot of space available in there, and it’s pretty easy to carry as well.
7. Easy On Your Eyes
Whether you believe it or not, eReaders, these days, come with a feature, which can help you adjust the brightness of your screen.
It can change automatically as well in accordance with the time of the day. So, if you want the device to do something as such, please activate it in the settings section.
Apart from this, you can also increase or decrease the font size of the texts according to your needs. In some cases, you might be able to highlight the important words on it too.
The Final Say
When making a comparison between an eBook and a physical book, the former looks like the best option on almost every occasion. However, we’ll still ask you to invest a little more than usual on an eReader. This way, you’ll get to use loads of features and all with ease. And, your overall reading experience will increase to some extent as well.
